SHROUDS APART

Shrouds Apart deconstructs the effects death has on the living without the use of dialogue. Told completely through dance and movement, this is the story of Vivian and Ivy as they try to navigate the aftermath of a tragedy.

This film was a close collaboration between Jen Lim and Tim Lo who jointly produced and directed the film as their graduation project some moons ago. Tim choreographed the dance pieces within the film and rehearsing and then incorporating these into the story was a wonderful experience with the two actors and dancers.

We are grateful to be able to share this film, or rather an except from the film, after all this time at an event with such a special focus.

ORANGE JUICE

Perception can change everything. How we each perceive a moment, an interaction, a memory, is completely unique to us, and can be very different to another person’s perception of the same moment.

I created this as a music video for Noah Kahan, the artist of the track. He would appear at the party at the end, as you will see when you watch. For me, the narrative in the lyrics of this song is so emotionally driven, there is so much pain there, and when I heard it, I just saw it so vividly. So I brought it to life in my own way, choosing to focus on the often shied away from vulnerability and love that two men can share.

AMMONIA

Aṁṁonia follows two cleaners, who through the possessions they find in a messy hotel suite, begin to imagine and embody the lives of the guests.

Choreographed by Emma Farnell-Watson and Kieran Lai, Ammonia explores the hidden power dynamics within society, and plays with how objects shape character, power and ways of moving. Directed by Joe Connor, it delves into class boundaries and the unseen structures that confine people, using dance to express what’s often hidden from view.

SOBER

Sober explores a raw three-way dynamic: a couple and the insidious grip of alcohol. The audience is first invited into the male character's life, following him home and witnessing his toxic sincerity.

We then switch to a female character's perspective through choreography and narrative that hint at topics such as domestic abuse, climaxing in a powerful argument.

The chair symbolises AA meetings and her desire for him to seek therapy. The underlying narrative reveals the female character's conflict between love and the inevitable, destructive cycle of addiction within a relationship she longs to escape.
